2018 Colorado FIVE member - Sommelier Kendra Anderson

 

I first met Kendra Anderson, owner of Bar Helix, early this year when we kicked off the 2018 Colorado FIVE season. I just can’t express strongly enough how much I admire her passion and ardency and over-all food knowledge. She’s a sommelier through-and-through. Her palette and understanding of flavor profiles is second to none. I think this is why she has such a deep understanding of wine and spirits, and it shows in the Bar Helix offerings. She graciously offered her space to be used when it was my turn to host a FIVE event in May. Wow, when I walked into Bar Helix to get a sense of the space, my eyes collided with the sexy, shimmering of rose-gold and metallic notes contrasting with pink street graffiti.

It was this graffiti that inspired a K-town dinner. Kendra and her staff welcomed and accommodated the FIVE team to the Nth degree. Her employees’ level of professionalism, excitement, and eagerness to work hard, echo Kendra’s leadership and commitment to excellence. She embraces the collaborative spirit and community support which is so important in our industry. Kendra regularly features DJ’s, offers themed brunches, and has Pop-Up style events inside Bar Helix, pairing spirits with some of Denver’s best food. Kendra Anderson is the owner + operator of bar helix, a modern, sexy bar + lounge offering innovative cocktails, an extensive by-the-glass wine selection and decadent small plates.

bar helix is the culmination of Kendra’s 15+ -year journey to become immersed in a lifestyle that revolves around exploring the very best of food and wine.

in 2002 Kendra graduated from denver’s Cook Street Culinary School professional chef program, which is where she began training to become a sommelier, attaining her Advanced Sommelier certification in 2006.

Kendra owned and operated flavor catering + event planning from 2003-2008, which she transitioned in 2011 to a wine consulting and event management business. from 2010 to 2013, she authored a weekly column on wine + culture for the Denver Westword, and contributed to other publications including Colorado Homes + Lifestyles and Wine + Spirits.

Bar Helix opened in denver’s historic RiNo Arts District on october 3, 2017.
