This natural bamboo tea scoop (chashaku) is a traditional Japanese tea utensil for measuring out a serving of powdered matcha (powdered green tea). It can be carved from several materials, including beautiful and rare woods or even ivory. Most commonly you will find it in bamboo, delicately crafted to a smooth, gentle bend. Chashaku are appreciated for their beauty as well as their function, and special ones are bestowed with poetic names (gomei) which give it a seasonal identity. In Japanese tea ceremony study, utensils are seasonal; some may only make an appearance once a year.

Length: 7.5"

Height: 0.25"

It is recommended to use two scoops of matcha tea for 2oz of water (about 2g); the scoop should be rounded, and reaching just the point where the chashaku starts to bend. Pair this chasaku with a bamboo whisk (chasen) when making matcha.
