The 150mm Petty from Yoshikazu Tanaka offers refined control in a compact, workhorse format. Hand forged in Sakai City, this blade reflects Tanaka-san’s highly regarded approach to steel treatment — prioritizing sharpness, balance, and long edge life through careful heat control and patient craftsmanship.

Built with a White #2 carbon steel core clad in soft iron, the blade is hardened to approximately 62 HRC and finished with a traditional kurouchi surface. The rough blacksmith finish is intentional, allowing Tanaka-san to focus on cutting performance rather than cosmetic refinement, resulting in an exceptional blade at a more accessible price point.

Fitted with a smoked oak octagonal handle, the Petty feels stable and responsive in hand. Ideal for trimming proteins, detail work, and everyday prep, it’s a compact knife that carries the same cutting authority as Tanaka-san’s larger blades.
