The Shikoku Noir series pairs traditional Sakai forging with a dark, understated aesthetic rooted in classic Japanese finishing techniques. Forged in Sakai by Tani-san, each knife features a White #2 carbon steel core in sanmai construction and a kurouchi finish that offers light protection against rust while giving the blade its distinctive deep tone. That finish, combined with the handle, creates the series’ monochrome look and quiet, austere beauty.

The handle is an oak octagon hidden tang design finished with charcoal mixed directly into matte urushi. This method comes from traditional Japanese plateware finishing, where durability and longevity are as important as appearance. The result is a composed, all-black presentation that feels tactile, subtle, and built to age well with use.

As a Santoku, this knife offers a compact, balanced feel suited to vegetables, proteins, and everyday prep. The shorter blade length and versatile profile make it comfortable in tighter workspaces while still providing the performance expected from Sakai-forged White #2 steel.
